RESEARCH SUMMARY
Theressa Ewa is a third-year NIH/University of Cambridge PhD candidate currently working with Dr. Xin Wang (NCI) and Prof. Daniel Muñoz-Espin (Cambridge). Theressa graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). Currently in the Laboratory of Human Carcinogenesis, she is studying early detection mechanisms that can be used to identify individuals at-risk of developing liver and lung cancer, as these cancers are heterogeneous diseases, and they affect people differently. The goals of her PhD are to identify specific etiologies and molecular features contributing to these differences as they may help improve cancer prevention, early detection, diagnosis, and treatments for patients.
