Commitment to Inclusion

We aspire to create a fully equitable work environment, build a diverse cancer research workforce, expand health disparities research and improve patient representation in clinical trials.

Our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility at CCR

We are dedicated to reaching our vision of a fully inclusive workplace in CCR. We acknowledge that it will require a consistent and sustained effort to change our organizational culture and eliminate structural barriers. We commit to evolving with accountability, transparency and consistency.

To create a more equitable CCR community, we will:

  • Make diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA) a topic of conversation and culture in CCR
  • Create and make DEIA resources available to all staff and supervisors
  • Train and educate faculty and staff about CCR's DEIA mission, cultural humility and implicit bias
  • Seek input and feedback from staff about our progress in creating a welcoming and inclusive organizational culture
  • Foster a culture that respects and encourages whistleblowers
  • Include a commitment to diversity in all staff performance reviews
  • Acknowledge and reward behavior that supports institutional DEIA efforts
  • Maintain accountability by reporting on goals and progress toward meeting them

To build and retain a diverse biomedical workforce at CCR, we will:

  • Ensure our culture is one where staff at all levels feel welcomed, included and valued
  • Create and improve existing training and career development opportunities
  • Ensure training, recognition/awards and career development opportunities are fully open to all and that participation is reflective of our staff demographics
  • Provide avenues for recruitment of highly qualified diverse staff at all levels
  • Be intentional in our efforts to recruit and retain faculty underrepresented in biomedical research
  • Create novel recruitment methods to encourage a diverse applicant pool and ensure a fair and inclusive evaluation process

To make our clinical trials more inclusive, we will:

  • Assess and reduce barriers to participation in CCR clinical trials
  • Be intentional in our effort to reach out to diverse patient populations
  • Broaden the eligibility criteria for our clinical trials to maximize accessibility
  • Build partnerships with local community organizations and leaders
  • Provide continuing education for our medical providers on issues around cultural humility and communication with patients and families
