After attending the highly selective French high school, Lycée de Galatasaray, Dr. Omer Tarik Esengur received his medical degree at Koç University School of Medicine, Istanbul, Turkey in 2023. He joined Dr. Baris Turkbey’s group within the Molecular Imaging Branch, NCI as a postdoctoral fellow in 2024. His research at the NCI focuses on prostate cancer imaging, MRI/US fusion-guided and systematic biopsy. Dr. Esengur previously took part in research projects at the Koç University Research Center for Translational Medicine involving Raman spectroscopy-based diagnostic AI technologies for detecting brain tumors. Additionally, he engaged in research at UCLA in 2019 as a visiting undergraduate researcher for biomedical imaging. During his clinical years, he started doing research on diagnostic radiology and worked in the LI-RADS International Working Group to translate the core LI-RADS documents to the Turkish language. After completing his postdoctoral fellowship, he wants to pursue a diagnostic radiology residency program with the goal of becoming a future physician-scientist by integrating his research abilities with his growing clinical expertise. Since high school, he has been interested in poetry and learning languages. He has been writing his own poems and hopes to publish them one day. Besides Turkish and English, he is fluent in French and in reading classical Latin, and also knows Modern Greek, and Swedish.
